Q&A with Jarin Dana
Question:
You’re wrapping up your term as NALTO President this October. What are you
most proud of during your leadership?
Jarin Dana:
It’s been an incredibly rewarding two years. I’m most proud of how we
strengthened NALTO’s voice as the industry’s standard-bearer for regulation,
ethics, professionalism, and best practices in locum tenens staffing. We
focused on improving transparency and ensuring standards kept pace with the
rapidly evolving healthcare workforce. I also appreciated the opportunity to
collaborate with peers to shape regulation and policy discussions at both
the state and national levels, especially around codifying locum tenens
providers as independent contractors under HR 1160.
Q:
What has surprised you most about the locum tenens industry during your
tenure?
Dana:
The acceleration of change. From post-COVID shifts in clinician expectations
to the rise of digital-first staffing models, the pace has been intense. But
what’s really stood out is how clinicians are demanding more from their
staffing partners. Physicians and advanced practice providers today expect
deeper personalization, increased transparency, and more flexibility than
ever before. That shift has validated a lot of the investments we’ve made at
Fusion in technology, service infrastructure, and credentialing support.
Q:
How has NALTO evolved during your time on the board and as President?
Dana:
We’ve moved from being primarily a governance body to becoming a more
strategic convener for the industry. NALTO now plays a critical role in
educating policymakers, clients and providers alike, whether that’s through
our best practices on verifying provider credentials, industry benchmarking,
or advocacy work. I believe the association is better positioned today to
serve as a long-term steward of quality and consistency in the locum tenens
space.
Q:
From your vantage point as both a CFO and NALTO President, what workforce
trends should providers and healthcare organizations be paying attention to?
Dana:
Three things come to mind. First, workforce flexibility is here to stay.
Providers increasingly want control over their schedules without sacrificing
clinical quality or earnings potential. Second, speed and simplicity in
placement and
credentialing are non-negotiable. Finally, relationships still matter. In a world with
more automation, the human connection continues to be the real
differentiator. That’s a big reason why Fusion has grown so quickly - we’ve
stayed focused on making the locum tenens experience personal and
trustworthy, while delivering the speed and efficiency that our clients and
providers expect.
Q:
What’s next for you and for Fusion, following your term at NALTO?
Dana:
I’m excited to continue helping Fusion lead in a market that’s evolving
fast. We’re doubling down on areas that matter most: improving job access
across specialties, deepening our national networks across both the supply
and demand sides of the healthcare staffing marketplace, investing in
technology that improves the client and provider experience, and making sure
every interaction reflects the personalized service that we’re known for.
I’ll also remain involved with NALTO on the Legislative Committee. We still
have a lot of unfinished business that I believe I can help support.
